Item Stock Code B6230
Item Description A pair of coloured stipple engravings,  full length portaits of King Louis XVI (first published 1790) and Queen Marie-Antionette (first published 1828) mounted in mirrored frames.

Portrait of King Louis XVI in Coronation Regalia (c1790)

Engraved by Charles-Clement Bervic after Collet's official state portrait of the King.  The print was published shortly before Louis was convicted of treason and sentenced to death.  The plate was broken by Bervic during the revolution but put back together by him after 1814.

Portait of Marie-Antoinette, reine de France, en grand habit de cour (1828)

Engraved by Roger, printed by Chatain.  The work is based on a painting by a prominent French artist and friend of Marie-Antoinette - Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun who painted many portraits of the Queen.  One of these, dated 1779, (now in the National Museum of Versailles) reverses the image but is otherwise identical.
